Cambridge Exams for Young Learners

There are three levels to the Cambridge English exam preparation for young learners (YLE). These tests help children to develop confidence and improve their language skills in everyday spoken and written English. Children are not given a pass or fail for the exam.

Exam  Who should take the exam 
Pre-A1 Starter (1st level)
  • Students are between the age of 7 and 8
  • They have some knowledge of English, approximately 100 hours of English lessons
A1 Movers (2nd level)
  • Learners are between the age of 8 and 11
  • Students have basic knowledge of English, approximately 175 hours of English lessons
  • They have basic English skills needed to communicate in simple, everyday situations
A2 Flyers (3rd level)
  • Students are between the age of 9 and 12
  • They have been studying English for at least two to three years at school with approximately 200 hours of English lessons
  • Learners have good English skills to communicate in simple situations such as asking and responding to instructions and talking about themselves
